Why do you want to be a scuba diver?
Devan Simmerson Dec 21, 2024
If you asked your dad this, he’d probably say “Because I watched Loyd Bridges on Sea hunt.” I started because my mom asked if I wanted to go, and I thought, why not? It sounded cool. I did a couple of dives and life happened. I went to school; I got married and so forth.
The truth is there are a myriad of reasons to become a scuba diver. You’re a nerd and you like going to aquariums, you think it will look cool on a resume, you think it might impress your high school crush. You want to travel. These reasons and more are why you should become a scuba diver.
I like to travel, and I can tell you this after five years of diving and exploring the Southeastern Unites States for diving sites, I have barely scratched the surface. There is of course the ocean, but there are quarries and springs, and rivers all over the place. This is just in the Southeastern US; we haven’t even brought up destination diving!
Five more reasons you should consider becoming a scuba diver:
- With every dive you will learn more about who you are as a person, not just as a diver.
- Jason Momoa uses a green screen to breathe underwater, you don’t!
- Your health will improve.
- You will meet new people who become unexpected friends.
- The gear is really cool!
Scuba diving helped me quit smoking, Scuba diving helped me deal with difficult situations in my personal and professional life. Scuba diving has allowed me to see new places that I would not have been able to see were I not a diver. I told you my “Why”, so take your “Why” and come find some more reasons to go diving.
